A connection part with a defined geometry
A gusset plate connects members through a project-specific arrangement of bolts or welds. Procurement begins with an approved connection drawing and the actual material designation. A triangular appearance does not define a load capacity, plate thickness or acceptable hole layout.
For quotation, identify every part mark, drawing revision and quantity. State whether the supply is a profiled blank, a blank with finished holes, or a larger fabricated connection assembly. Separate these scopes before comparing offers.
Gusset plate drawing inputs
| Order detail | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Material | Full grade, product standard, thickness and delivery condition |
| Outline | Controlled profile, corner details and dimension datums |
| Hole group | Coordinates, hole type, diameter and orientation of any slots |
| Edge condition | Cut-edge quality, burr removal and machining where specified |
| Identification | Part mark, drawing revision and required heat-document relationship |
| Acceptance | Inspection method and project tolerances on finished parts |
Coordinate the plate with the connection design
The engineer must approve bolt spacing, edge distances, connection forces and any welded details. Hole sizes or slot directions should not be chosen from a generic product image. Submit the mating member and bolt information where it is needed to review fabrication.
For repeated parts, distinguish left-hand and right-hand versions explicitly. If trial assembly or a first-piece report is required, state its scope before production. The offered cutting, drilling or machining process and any subcontracted work are confirmed against the drawing.
Prepare a part-mark schedule
- Send an approved drawing or dimensioned CAD profile with units.
- List part marks, revisions, thicknesses and quantities.
- Define holes, slots, edge treatment and identification.
- Specify material documents, inspection records and trial assembly if needed.
- Include packing by erection area, destination and delivery basis.
The quotation covers the agreed parts and processing; structural design and connection approval remain with the responsible project team.
Can a gusset plate be selected by a standard picture?
No. Its outline, thickness, holes and connection duty must come from the approved project drawing.
Are bolts or welding included?
List them separately. Supply of plate blanks does not establish a complete bolted or welded connection scope.
Can identical shapes use one part mark?
Only when the approved drawing and identification system treat them as the same part. Different material, thickness, hole arrangement or revision should be identified.
