Grade K, carried through the order
ASTM A588 Grade K is a grade-specific structural weathering steel inquiry option. The full grade belongs in the material schedule, quotation and purchase order, with the standard edition and delivered form agreed before supply. Grade K should not be assumed to replace Grade A or Grade B without an approved review.
We review requests for plate dimensions, quantities, documentation and processing against the submitted specification. Available sizes, material origin, inspection scope and lead time are confirmed in the quotation.
Specification points to confirm
| Item | Inquiry requirement |
|---|---|
| Material reference | ASTM A588/A588M, Grade K, required edition |
| Product form | Plate or processed plate blanks; confirm the offered route |
| Dimensions | Thickness × width × length, quantity and dimensional tolerances |
| Delivery condition | Condition required by the drawing and accepted mill offer |
| Acceptance records | Chemical and mechanical test results, heat identification and agreed supplementary tests |
Structural fabrication and exposure
A588 material is used in structural fabrication where the approved design calls for atmospheric corrosion resistance. Welding, edge preparation and inspection should follow the project’s accepted procedures. If bridge work has additional requirements, review the governing bridge specification instead of assuming an A588 description covers every obligation.
For bare exposure, discuss drying, drainage, salt contamination, concealed joints and runoff. A natural patina does not remove the need for detailing and site assessment. An initial surface sample and material certification serve different purposes.
Request a Grade K quotation
- Attach the approved grade reference and drawing revision.
- List all plate sizes, pieces and required delivery condition.
- Identify cut profiles, holes, bevels, tolerances and marking after processing.
- State certificate, testing, packing and destination requirements.
Compare the Grade A and Grade B inquiry pages, or read the A588 grade selection guide. Changes of grade or supply condition require acceptance before ordering.
Is Grade K automatically a higher grade than A or B?
No. The letters identify distinct grade requirements. Select the designation required by the approved specification.
Can a photograph confirm ASTM A588 Grade K?
No. Material identity is established through the agreed inspection records and traceable identification.
Are stock sizes and delivery times fixed?
No. Confirm availability, achievable dimensions, processing and schedule in a project quotation.
ASTM A588/A588M public scope and ArcelorMittal hot-rolled product references for Grade K. The agreed standard and mill documents govern acceptance.
