Corten A steel plate and sheet
SHANDONG DAZHI accepts Corten A material inquiries from project buyers, fabricators and distributors. Use this page to prepare a specification for weathering steel with a rust-toned appearance. The name alone does not define every acceptance requirement: identify the producer specification or material standard, product form and testing needed for your project.
Weathering steel develops an oxide surface during atmospheric exposure. Appearance depends on drainage, wetting and drying, orientation and the surrounding environment. A photograph cannot verify a grade or guarantee the final colour of a delivered panel.
Material parameters and specification
For technical orientation, SSAB's published hot-rolled COR-TEN® A data lists minimum yield strength of 345 MPa, minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa and phosphorus of 0.07–0.15%. These are producer-specific reference values, not a SHANDONG DAZHI stock specification or a certificate for an offered heat.

Confirm the actual chemistry, mechanical properties and available dimensions in the proposed mill documents. If your drawing specifies S355J2WP or ASTM A242, retain that designation in the RFQ; do not substitute Corten A on the basis of a comparison chart.
Uses for Corten A
- Façade and cladding panels: specify panel geometry, supports, flatness and visible-face requirements.
- Landscape elements: include edging profiles, fixing details and separation from surfaces that may stain.
- Sculpture and public art: agree the appearance sample and fabrication detail before production.
Assess persistent dampness, trapped debris and salt exposure before selecting bare weathering steel. Detail water runoff and ventilation as part of the assembly. Structural suitability still depends on the design and agreed material properties.
Cutting, bending and ordering
Send a drawing for profiles, perforations or folded panels. Thickness, rolling direction, bend radius and edge condition affect fabrication; confirm a process against the actual material. Treat pre-weathering as a separate finish requirement, with a sample and acceptance criteria where appearance matters.

Frequently asked questions
Is Corten A the same as ordinary mild steel?
No. The intended material is a weathering steel with a specified alloy composition. Surface rust on ordinary carbon steel does not establish that it meets a Corten A requirement.
Which thicknesses and sizes can I order?
Send the complete size and quantity list. Available dimensions, minimum order quantity and lead time are confirmed for the proposed material in the quotation; this page is not a live stock list.
Is Corten A automatically equivalent to A242 or S355J2WP?
No. Check the standard edition, chemistry, strength, toughness, thickness and delivery condition. Any substitution needs acceptance against the project specification.
Can I request pre-weathered or cut-to-size material?
Include the required finish and drawings in your inquiry. Processing feasibility, tolerances, appearance samples and delivery schedule are reviewed before confirmation.
