Make the approved words independent of the font file
Provide a dimensioned drawing and vector outlines for the final message. Outlined characters reduce dependence on a font being installed on another computer, but they do not replace a spelling and orientation check. Keep an approved readable proof alongside the production file.
State the panel size, margins and viewing side. Identify arrows, symbols and left/right versions explicitly. A mirrored CAD operation can preserve the shape of the panel while reversing the message.
Decide what holds the centres of the letters
Letters with enclosed internal areas need a physical retention approach when cut through the panel. The designer may use bridges, a backing or another approved arrangement. Show that decision in the artwork rather than leaving it to an undocumented workshop correction.
Review small details and the remaining material between cuts with the processor. Achievable features depend on the material and process. Avoid publishing a universal minimum bridge or stroke dimension without an agreed production review.
| Checkpoint | Information to agree |
|---|---|
| Text proof | Exact wording, arrow direction and viewing face |
| Vector geometry | Outlined characters and correct units |
| Letter centres | Bridges, backing or another approved retention detail |
| Hardware | Hole positions and unobstructed mounting arrangement |
Coordinate artwork with the mounting scheme
Place fixing holes, brackets and any backing behind the actual lettering arrangement. Check that a fixing or support will not obstruct the intended cut-through opening. Show the visible face and acceptable edge treatment.
For multiple messages, use a sign register containing the exact wording, artwork revision, dimensions and quantity. Obtain an explicit release of the final message before fabrication; technical approval of a steel grade does not approve the spelling.
Before releasing the order
- Supply a final vector file and dimensioned proof.
- Approve every message and handed version.
- Resolve internal letter islands before release.
- Identify backing, posts and hardware as separate scope.
Treat the artwork revision as a production document. Keep it linked to the panel drawing and the sign register throughout the order.
Review the related product inquiry with the approved drawing and material schedule.
