A message panel begins with approved artwork
A weathering steel sign panel combines a defined message with a physical mounting arrangement. It is ordered by approved artwork and dimensions, rather than by a repeating screen pattern. Keep the exact wording, type outlines, arrow direction and panel orientation in a controlled drawing.
For cut-through lettering, enclosed areas inside characters need a retention detail or a suitable backing arrangement. Identify these features before quoting so the finished message remains complete. Provide an artwork file with the fonts converted to outlines, together with a dimensioned drawing and revision identifier.
Artwork and fabrication schedule
| Order detail | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Panel outline | Width, height, thickness, corner shape and border clearances |
| Message | Exact spelling, symbols, arrow direction and approved vector outlines |
| Cut features | Minimum details to review, internal letter islands and bridges |
| Mounting | Hole and slot positions, fasteners, brackets and edge distances |
| Background | Backing plate, stand-off space or open background as designed |
| Visible finish | Front/back visibility, edge treatment and sample approval |
Review visibility and the complete support arrangement
Letter height, contrast and viewing conditions belong in the sign design. Where accessibility, road use or other regulated signage requirements apply, the responsible designer must establish the relevant criteria. A decorative material selection alone does not demonstrate compliance.
Define whether the order covers the panel only or also brackets, posts and backing. The installer or engineer should address support loads, anchors, public contact and drainage. Show how runoff will be kept away from vulnerable paving and how any rear cavity can drain.
Approve the words before fabrication
- Supply a final vector file and dimensioned panel drawing.
- Confirm spelling, orientation, letter islands and fixing locations.
- State each sign reference, message and quantity separately.
- Identify the finish sample and every visible face.
- List backing, posts and installation hardware as included or excluded scope.
Lighting, electrical components and a complete installed sign system require their own specification and confirmation. The quotation should identify the agreed panel fabrication and accessories precisely.
Is the word in the image the only available design?
The illustration shows a sample message. Submit your own approved text and artwork for review.
Are posts and a backing panel included?
Only the scope stated in the quotation is included. Show the required posts, brackets, backing and hardware in the inquiry.
What happens to the enclosed centre of a cut letter?
It needs a bridge, backing or another approved retention method. Resolve the detail in the artwork before fabrication.
