Define the container around the planting requirement

A planter box is a container with a defined footprint, wall arrangement and base detail. Its procurement schedule should identify both the finished external envelope and the usable internal planting space, because folded rims, liners and internal supports can affect that space.

Weathering steel planter inquiries are reviewed against a drawing or dimensioned sketch. Identify whether units should arrive assembled or as parts for site assembly. Describe visible seams, corner treatment and accessible edges, together with the base steel grade and intended finish.

Resolve moisture and runoff before installation

Planters place steel close to irrigation and moist planting media. Identify prolonged wet contact, liner interfaces and the drainage route in the project design. Agree how discharge will be kept away from finishes that could be stained by rust runoff. A weathering appearance does not establish suitability for permanently wet exposure.

The designer should assess filled weight, wall restraint and support conditions. Handling arrangements for an empty container need their own review; do not assume a unit can be lifted after it is filled. If a coating or liner is specified, include the system, interface details and acceptance requirements in the drawing package.

Prepare a planter and finish schedule

  • Give every planter type an identifier and quantity.
  • Separate external dimensions from clear planting dimensions.
  • Mark the base, drainage, rims, visible joints and installation level.
  • Request a finish sample where the initial appearance is important.
  • Include packing constraints, site access and delivery destination.

Specify planting containers directly rather than sending a general landscape-product description. Fabrication method, dimensions, accessories and delivery state are established in the quotation.

Are the illustrated dimensions a standard size?

The image is representative. Supply your required internal and external dimensions; no illustrated size or stock range is implied.

Can a planter be supplied in parts for site assembly?

State the required delivery arrangement and connection details. The assembly scope, hardware and feasibility are confirmed after review.

Will pre-weathering stop future colour change or staining?

No fixed future colour or stain-free performance is promised. Agree the initial sample and review drainage and protection of adjacent finishes.
